Reventioned FAQ
Short, straight answers about how Reventioned works, what’s private, and how to get started.
Is Reventioned free?
Yes. There is no subscription, no paywall and no ads. It runs on the open Nostr network and static hosting, so it costs almost nothing to run.
Do I need a phone number or email to sign up?
No. Your account is a cryptographic key created on your device. You never give us a phone number, an email or your real name.
Are my messages end-to-end encrypted?
Private 1:1 and group messages are end-to-end encrypted using Nostr's NIP-17 “gift wrap” standard, so relays can't read them or see who sent them. Feed posts are public by design, like any social network.
Who can read my data?
Your chats and keys are stored on your device. There are no Reventioned accounts or servers holding your messages. Relays only ever see encrypted envelopes for private messages.
How do I install it on iPhone or Android?
Open reventioned.com in your browser. On iPhone, use Safari's Share button → Add to Home Screen. On Android, tap Install (or the browser menu → Install app). It then opens full-screen like any other app and works offline.
What happens if I lose my phone?
Install Reventioned on the new device, tap “I already have a key”, and enter your 24-word recovery phrase. Your account and encrypted backup come back. Without the phrase, nobody — including us — can recover the account.
What is Nostr?
Nostr is an open protocol for social apps and messaging. Instead of one company's servers, independent relays pass signed messages between apps. Your identity is a key you own, so you can use the same account in many Nostr apps (for example Damus, Primal or Amethyst) and keep your followers.
Can I send money in Reventioned?
Yes, using Bitcoin's Lightning Network. You connect a Lightning wallet you already use through Nostr Wallet Connect (NWC), then send and receive payments in seconds. Reventioned never holds your funds.
Is Reventioned a WeChat alternative?
In spirit, yes: chat, a feed, payments, a marketplace and mini apps in one app. The difference is that Reventioned has no company servers holding your data, no real-name requirement and no phone number.
Can I talk to people who use other Nostr apps?
Yes. Because Reventioned speaks the open Nostr protocol, you can follow and message people on other Nostr clients, and your profile shows up there too.
Does Reventioned track me?
No per-user tracking and no cookies. The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which only counts aggregate page views.
Is there a desktop version?
Yes — the same app works in any modern desktop browser at reventioned.com, and can be installed as a desktop app from Chrome or Edge.
